Sage

Adopted

Sage has been adopted!

Introducing Sage.  A lovely 2 ½ year old female old who was found wondering about Eastern NC.  That prompted pick up by animal control.  She was listed by the shelter as a Border Collie, but is obviously a Border Collie mix.  But regardless of her lineage, we are so glad to have her in CBCR!

Sage is a very gentle, docile and loving little girl.  Not an aggressive bone in her body; and with proper introduction, she hasn’t met a person nor a dog that she hasn’t liked.  However, if an unfamiliar larger dog comes suddenly charging up to her, it will scare her.

Toys do not interest her at all, but she loves running and playing with our own dogs and other dogs she meets.   She will play ball with me only for about two throws and be done with it, then off to exploring…her favorite activity, especially in the woods.  In the warmer weather she likes hanging out on the back porch monitoring her “estate” for wildlife.

Inside, she wants to stay by her person and catch a few hugs.  However, she would not do well if she were confined to the house all day while her people are at work.  She tends to get anzy, although not destructive.

She’s fine in the house while we run errands; we have never had a reason to crate her as she is fully trustworthy inside.  Plus, I think a crate would upset her.  We usually take her with us on errands if possible, because she rides so well and likes to be one of the family.

She does need a fence because her exploring can unintentionally lead her off property, even though she very soon returns.  No privacy fence please as she needs the mental stimulation of her surroundings.

Sage has only been briefly exposed to young children.  She mostly ignored them although she didn’t seem to mind one bit letting them pet her at whim.

Cats?   We don’t know, but she will chase wildlife, so cats may not be a good idea.

She does have a decent vocabulary and picks up fairly fast.  No resource guarding with her food and she is not a barker.  She kindly waits her turn for a treat.

She also walks well on a leash.

It would be wonderful for Sage to have a canine buddy and a large enough yard where they can do some serious running and playing.  Especially since she’s not into toys and only so, so with the ball.  Even though she does not have the unrelenting drive and stamina of a purebred Border Collie, it’s still important.

Sage has such a wonderful disposition, it’s hard to think of any cons.  She’s a dream.  We love, love, love this little girl and have promised her we will find her a home she will thrive in.

She comes spayed, UTD on vaccinations, heartworm negative and microchipped.
