Rusty

Adopted

Rusty has been adopted!

Rusty was living the high life when his owner became unable to care for him. He was relinquished to CBCR and into foster care. Rusty came to CBCR up to date on vaccinations, and neutered – just a lovable, chocolate-colored Border Collie with a very full rough coat, and not an unkind molecule in his body. There was just one small thing, Rusty weighed 95 lbs.

Rusty’s foster immediately put him on a solid weight management diet with frozen green beans, probiotics, and a joint supplement for added nutritional support. Going slowly for his system to adjust gradually as the weight came off, it has taken 14 months, but at 49 lbs. Rusty is now approaching his earlier show-kennel weight. He is able to move easily, run and play with the resident dog, and chase the cat across the yard – a healthy, happy boy. As the weight came off, labs showed that he has an underactive thyroid. With medication thyroid levels are managed and he has great energy for a 6 1/2-year-old gentleman.

Rusty will always have to watch his weight, but can be maintained on a regular diet as his activity continues to increase. Having no problem standing and moving ahead on a show lead, he is still learning the benefits of sitting and going for a stroll around the neighborhood, training for treats, and once again living the high life.
