Rex
Adopted
Rex has been adopted!
Rex
Rex is about two and a half years old and is extremely friendly, sweet, and outgoing. Rex was adopted earlier this year, but had some difficulties in his new home environment and just didn’t transition well, so was returned to CBCR. A trainer evaluation picked up that Rex was very sensitive to certain sounds at his adoptive home, so we’ve been working hard on this at his foster home to make sure he can handle whatever comes his way. Rex has learned to walk well on a leash, and is learning to handle distractions like other dogs– he just wants to play so bad!. He’s a fast learner and already has about 10 commands and tricks under his belt. He’s a toy hog (and thief!) but he hasn’t resource guarded, enjoys snuggling, and has tolerated us crawling over him, laying our head on him, etc. He’s living with two cats and while he will chase them if they’re sprinting across the back yard, the second they stop he stops and he is a perfect gentleman to them if they’re walking or doing nothing. He’s great at fetch and loves running around in the backyard with his two foster siblings. He’s currently loose in the house with free access to the backyard. He’s also crate trained and sleeps at night in his crate with the door open, but would do best in an environment where he doesn’t have to stay in a crate all day. He’d do better with older kids or no kids, and would love a home with another dog and a fenced in back yard. He’d be a great runner’s companion!
His weakness is riding in cars– he gets overstimulated and barks, goes from side to side in the car. He’s done much better riding in his crate and went 45 minutes without barking! We’ll keep working on this, as well as his tendency to bark for attention.
Rex is your typical high-drive border collie. He has A LOT of energy and will need a home dedicated to providing him both mental and physical stimulation for him to be happy. His current foster home spends about an hour to an hour and a half a day on exercise and 15-20 minutes working on training.
Rex was instinct tested and did very well, so would do great with herding or with flyball or frisbee.
