Phoenix:

Phoenix was found on the side of the road by a good samaritan. She wasn’t able to use her left rear leg because it was very badly broken and she wasn’t able to go to the bathroom due to the extent of the swelling from the injury. Her leg was beyond repair, so she had surgery to amputate it, and she was started on medication to decrease the swelling. She did very well through surgery and through her long road to recovery, and now she is ready to find her future family!

Phoenix has adapted very well to life with three legs. She runs and plays with the other dogs in her foster home, and she loves to wiggle her way into her foster mom’s lap when she’s sitting on the couch. Phoenix is a BIG fan of snuggles and isn’t shy about asking for them!

She is wary of new situations and tends to be somewhat timid. She prefers people over dogs, but gets along well with the other dogs in her foster home. She will not eat around the other dogs, if they come over to her bowl she immediately walks away. She is largely uninterested in cats, but she will chase them if they start running.

Phoenix quickly learned ‘Sit’ and is learning how to walk on a leash. She is crate trained, although she sometimes barks for a few minutes when initially crated. If she’s told ‘No’ she quickly settles down. She would do well with an active family who will take her for walks/runs and who has a fenced in backyard.
