Reminiscent of the old farm dogs seen around sheep and cattle farms in Virginia, Nellie might not be the prettiest girl in the class but her loyalty and joie de vivre cannot be beat.

After having at least two litters of puppies, due to financial reasons, Nellie’s owners decided to surrender Nellie and her last puppy Alyx, (also available for adoption), to Carolina Border Collie Rescue. It is obvious that Nellie was well loved. She in turn, loves everyone she meets. “Oh there’s a person!! Let me say hi.” She will run up to that person and sit nicely by their side. She knows no strangers.

Although she has not been exposed to children in her foster home, she would likely be fine with them. One of her playmates in her former home was a cat.

Nellie was kept in a kennel for most her life. A nice big kennel but nothing that allowed her to run. When she got to her foster foster home, with a very large fenced yard, she loved to run, run, run! She never tried to jump the 3.5 foot fence or dig under it.

Nellie was carrying a few pounds of “baby weight” when she arrived. It quickly dissolved with increased exercise, (despite what Dr, Pontzer might say). She has her girlish figure back and is looking great!

Nellie can use more training but like most Border Collies wants only to please her person. She will be easy to train. She is crate trained and and house trained although different schedules might require a refresher. Nellie may not be a great “dog park dog:” as she is herdy and wants to control the action.

The owners described Nellie as a purebred Border Collie. A Wisdom Panel had a different result. Not unexpected in some working dogs.
