Max
Adopted
Max has been adopted!
Adopted: Max has found his forever home. We wish him the very best life possible.
Max was rescued from the Henderson County Animal Shelter. He and his sister were cases of neglect. After the usual decompression time needed for rescue dogs, Max was resting comfortably, becoming buddies with his foster sibling, and began eating well and gaining necessary weight.
Max is a very smart and fearless dog. He’s got lots of energy and will need an active, experienced family. He walks and runs pretty well on leash and has learned the usual basic commands including learning some impulse control ones such as “wait”. He loves to ride in a car. He is house trained. He makes a great companion and loves to sleep on the couch with you. He is also suited well for agility. However, herding and farmwork are not his thing. He is very food motivated and responds well to positive reinforcement.
Because of his neglect, Max is sometimes afraid of strangers and continues to work on his approach with strangers, so asking new people to move slowly and give Max some space to adjust and warm up to the person is advised. He is still somewhat reactive to certain parts of his body being touched, but he can be desensitized to that with continued exposure from a trusted person. Max also needs to be on leash except at dog parks and fenced in yards. Max needs a family that will continue to work with him socialization skills. Training classes would also benefit Max.
