In Progress: Mack is currently in training to improve his manners and to help him feel more comfortable meeting strangers.
Mack, as in Mack the Truck is a big gorgeous 2 year-old Border Collie/Great Pyrenees/German Shepherd Mix. He was surrendered to a shelter due to his overly exuberant method of expressing his love and devotion. This proved too much for the young children in his former family.
Adoption rates for large dogs are low but Mack AKA, Mackaroni, Big Dog, quickly became a shelter favorite with his goofy sweet nature. The shelter was hopeful he would be adopted, but when that did not happen, Carolina Border Collie Rescue was contacted.
Mack looks, acts and moves like a Border Collie, just the giant version. He loves to play fetch and is getting better at Frisbee. He gets along well with his 9 foster siblings. His favorite game is to steal one of their toys and be chased into submission.
He is the follow you from room to room kind of dog who will bond strongly with his person. He would make a great running or walking partner. You will feel safe with Big Mack by your side.
Mack is house trained and crate trained. His current education involves taming his enthusiastic affection and basic manners. He doesn’t quite realize that jumping up and mouthing, which was likely accepted when he was a puppy, is not appropriate. He is very treat motivated and a quick learner. Since being in his foster home, he has developed a little bit of “stranger danger.” We are working on that too.
Mack would not be appropriate for children under 12 as explained above. He will not be adopted to a home with an any type of invisible fence system or one that uses shock/stimulus collars.
If you would like to talk about Mack please contact his foster mom Ann: 919.682.6125 before 8 PM, no text, annMiller@nc.rr.com.
