Lyla
Adopted
Lyla has been adopted!
LYLA is a young adult purebred Border Collie who was abandoned in a rural area. She was pretty shy when she came to us but was always very sweet and loving. Since coming into our care, Lyla has really blossomed and gained confidence. She is a sweetheart and loves to get pet and her belly rubbed. While cautious when meeting new people, she always wants to go greet them with a friendly tail wag. Lyla is an absolute joy to have around. She is housebroken, calm in the house and happy to curl up next to you, ideally in a comfy dog bed. She does not get up on furniture and is crate trained. Once outside she is a different dog, high energy, ready to go, and super excited about toys like soccer balls and frisbees. She is a very athletic dog and gives any squirrel a run for their money.
Lyla had two seizures a month apart since she was in our care and subsequently was examined by a neurologist. All their tests were normal, and she was therefore diagnosed with idiopathic epilepsy, a condition she will need lifelong medication for. It is possible that she was abandoned by a previous owner because of it. She is on seizure medication now and has not had a seizure since, it has been over a month now. Dogs with epilepsy usually live a normal lifespan and can do all the normal activities they like, with certain precautions, one being that she needs medication on a regular basis. Lyla needs that special adopter with a big heart who is willing to give her a chance despite her limitations. In return, she is a wonderful dog who has a lot of love to give!
Lyla currently lives with two older male Border Collies and a cat. It took her a while to get used to the dogs, she is a dog that needs to be introduced to new dogs slowly until she trusts them. She has gotten much better with the cat, she still chases when invited by the cat but they can sleep next to each other with no issues. Lyla will not be adopted to a family with young children and needs a fenced-in yard, applicants with any electric type fencing will not be considered.
Lyla is fostered in Holly Springs, NC. For more information please contact Gabriela at seilergs@gmail.com or 215 292 8297.
