Kuma
Adopted
Kuma has been adopted!
Adopted: Kuma has found her forever home. We wish her the very best life possible.
Kuma (formerly Jessie) is a wonderful border collie mix who appears to be 1-2 years old. She was picked up as a stray, so nothing is known for sure about her background. It definitely seems like she hasn’t lived in a house before, or seen much of the world. Especially given that background, though, she’s an incredibly sweet, friendly, and adaptable dog. She’ll startle at new experiences, but quickly learns to accept her environment. She’s already housebroken, and is making good progress on her leash training and basic manners. She settles nicely when in the house, is okay being left, and is quiet and non-destructive. She loves nothing more than a good cuddle and a belly rub. The ideal home for Jessie would be one where she gets lots of attention, and where she can use up some of her bouncy young dog energy. With a little training, she’d make a great jogging partner.
Kuma loves playing with other dogs, but appears to have been poorly socialized, and has shown some aggression and bullying toward the smaller dog in her foster family. For this reason, she would probably do best as an only dog, or with a very carefully matched dog sibling (a young, equally energetic male dog might make a good friend for her). Any potential adopter will need to be aware of this tendency toward aggression with other dogs, and manage it carefully – Jessie is a powerful young dog who could potentially cause another dog significant harm. Jessie also has a strong chasing instinct, so she needs a home without cats or other small animals. Because she’s young and boisterous – and still working on her manners – she won’t be rehomed to a family with children under 10. But she could potentially be a great family dog for older children.
All in all, Kuma is a sweet, wonderful, trainable dog. With a little patience, time, and effort, she’ll make some lucky someone a perfect companion.
