Biography:
Hi, my name is Goose! I will be 3 years old in June. I am a Border Collie/Aussie Mix, or so my Mom was told. My family rescued me from an apartment where I was given minimal food and water, left in there while my owner worked and went to college. I was malnourished, anemic, and 26 lbs soaking wet. My family spent thousands of dollars that first week trying to find out why I threw up all my food, and usually my water too. My previous owner only let me have a little water at a time. But my Mom thought that was a horrible idea and left 2 bowls full of water out at all times until I realized it wouldn’t be taken away. She also got me a really cool slow feeder because I was so afraid my food would disappear that I ate it too fast and threw it up. My family paid for training, and I was the star student! All those other dogs kept barking and misbehaving! I lay at Mom’s feet and did what she said.
I have lived in this nice house with a fenced-in yard for a year and a half. My Mom adores me and loves that I follow her around everywhere and nudge her. My Dad and human brother, however, HATE that. I have tried to be a different kind of dog, but herding is in my BLOOD, and I can’t change. Unfortunately, my family had no idea what Border Collies were like and were shocked at how incredibly HIGH I can jump and how fast I can run! I do like chasing their cat, and I think they hate that! Most of the time, if Mom is watching TV, I lie on the floor and take a nap. If she gets up, I follow her because she might need me! What if she trips? Never mind that I am usually the reason she trips, lol. Dad absolutely HATES that I follow him. I have a clean bill of health, thanks to their excellent care. I am neutered…yes, they took my MANHOOD!!! I had only 2 accidents in the house since I’ve been here, one because I ate something I shouldn’t have and boy did my tummy hurt…until I let it all out. Poor Mom had to clean it up. I only chew on my special toys (Mom went through a lot of companies before she found toys I couldn’t destroy in one day. Now I’ve had those same toys a whole year!) I am crate-trained, although I’d really like a nicer crate; mine is old and bent from humans falling on it. I can sit, lie down, give you my paw, stay, leave it, go to my “place” or go to my “kennel”, I am super polite and wait until you tell me, “ok, eat”, and I’m sure I can learn tons of other things if someone wants to take the time to teach me! I learn very quickly. I know my Mom really doesn’t want me to go, and my human brother will be very mad that she is finding me a new home, but she thinks it would be better for me if everyone in the house loved border collies and appreciated my excellent herding abilities. Oh, before I forget, if you leave food out…I will steal it. They have lids on most of their garbage cans because I just can’t resist! One time, I stole an entire banana bread bundt cake off the table (my Dad made it, that did not help him like me at all), I ate the whole thing, but hey, I left the Saran Wrap at least!
If you love herding breeds and have a fenced in yard or are willing to take the time to train me to stay in your yard (even when I have escaped, I’m usually around the other side of the house!), don’t have cats or small pets (I can’t resist the urge to chase them), then my Mom would love to talk to you. I am GREAT with any kind of people, big, small, and in-between. I love going to the kennel where my Mom boards me to play with lots of other dogs… she asks me if I want to go play with my friends, and I can’t wait to get in the car!
Mom is going to be very picky about who she chooses to adopt me and will probably require an adoption fee so that bad people won’t take me. Can’t wait to meet you!
-Goose
Goose is the best dog ever! He walks well on a harness leash.
Does the dog have any medical issues? No
Does the dog have any history of aggression, such as growling, lunging, snapping, or biting any adult or child? No
Does the dog have any history of aggression toward other animals? No
Reason for re-homing? Tried for 1.5 years to get husband and son to accept border collie behaviors. Only Mom can deal with it, and she is tired of all the constant complaining. It’s not fair to Goose to have only one family member adore him.
