Davie 

Davie, named after her home county, is a shy and silly border collie mix with a medium-length coat. The vet estimates that she’s about a year and a half. She’s a bit underweight now but will weigh 30-35 lbs when she’s filled out. Her past is unknown, but it seemed pretty obvious after meeting Davie that she’s spent the last bit fighting for survival and living on her own. Don’t hold that against her, though! She was shy and scared at first, but now she pouts if she’s not the one getting petted. Her favorite things are her foster brother, Franklin, walks, mealtime, and snuggling. After only two weeks, she has a fine set of manners and has gone from slinking and counter-surfing to a happy little lady who responds promptly to requests for more polite behaviors. Although she still gets nervous about loud noises and new situations, with Franklin and her people by her side she’s willing to try anything! She’s shown no aggression towards food or other animals, has had no accidents in the house, and has learned to wait at the door before going out. Unfortunately, Davie tested positive for heartworms and is about to start her treatment but will be available when she’s free and clear from her infection. In the mean time, she’s working on gaining weight, meeting new people, and learning all sorts of neat tricks to keep her from getting TOO bored. She has a stiff hip and will also working on stretching and strengthening it, with further evaluation to be done over the next month. Davie’s looking for someone that likes to snuggle and be woken up by enthusiastic kisses. She can stay in a crate but has actually done better when free in the house. Davie could be an only dog but would really benefit from having a big brother or sister to help her be brave. She’s done great with two cats and has interacted well with kids, although their unpredictability made her a little anxious. As such, she’d be more comfortable with older kids or no kids but is fine when they visit! She loves having a fenced-in back yard where she can sleep in the sun, but lack of one wouldn’t necessarily be a deal-breaker. She will most likely be an active companion who loves to hike and swim but is currently activity restricted due to her heartworms.
Davie will be available after completion of her heartworm treatment and subsequent FHO surgery.
