Captain

Adopted

Captain has been adopted!

Personality

Captain is an affectionate and fun-loving dog who is making incredible progress on his journey to a confident, happy life. When Captain first came to us, he was struggling with anxiety, but with the right support and care, he is steadily becoming more comfortable in his surroundings. By focusing on crate training and lots of exercise, he is making wonderful strides!

This lovable goofball is a big cuddle bug who adores affection. He’ll happily nudge you with his paw when he wants more pets, and there’s no such thing as too much love for Captain. While he’s still adjusting to some things, like walks and car rides (they can be a bit intimidating for him), he is working hard on overcoming his fears.

Energy Level:
Captain has medium-high energy which makes her great for an active family. However, he does love cuddling and laying by your side. His favorite activities, however, are playing fetch and chasing a frisbee—he’s an energetic and playful companion once he’s comfortable. Lots of exercise is also helping his anxiety and fears tremendously.

Special Considerations:

Captain would do best in a home with a calm environment as the only dog (or max one other one), as he thrives in a more peaceful setting. Captain would thrive in a home with a fenced-in yard or a lot of land, where he can enjoy some space to run around and play. He gets very attached to his humans, so someone who works from home most days would be the perfect fit for him. He needs a lot of reassurance and pets.

Captain does well with other dogs, but would prefer to be the only dog in the home or share his humans with only one other dog. He is a submissive pup who takes a little time to warm up to new dog friends but, once he does, he enjoys their company. He also gets along wonderfully with cats.

Captain does extremely well with children 5 years and older! He is shy to warm up at first but then loves following them around as they call him. He hasn’t been tested with children under 5.

Health & Training:
Captain is neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations, and in great health. He is currently on a daily anti-anxiety medication to help him manage his stress. Captain is crate-trained (for up to 4-5 hours at a time) but will begin to get anxious quickly after that. He does not like being left alone for long periods of time. He is also house-trained. He knows basic commands like sit, stay, and come, and can be an off leash dog especially in large spaces without cars.

Perfect Home:

A loving home with no other dogs (cats are okay). An experience owner who can be patient and committed and will give Captain lots of love. Captain’s new family will need to be patient and willing to invest time during the first 2-3 weeks to continue training and make sure the transition goes well. Captain is a sweetheart and will make a wonderful companion.

We want to ease Captain into adoption, with someone who is open to multiple visits. While we hope to find him a forever home by mid-to late-January, we are committed to ensuring he is fully prepared for the right match.
