Benny

Benny is a 4 month old male border collie puppy that came to CBCR from an animal shelter in Western NC. He was found limping along the side of a busy highway when he was picked up by animal control and taken to the animal shelter. The shelter contacted and passed Benny to CBCR because they thought he had a broken leg. After many visits and consults with several specialist veterinarians and surgeons, it was concluded that Benny’s front right leg was broken badly in his early life. The break caused damage to his growth plates which in turn caused severe deformities in his elbow joint, radius and ulna. After much deliberation with his team of vets, it was decided that amputation would give Benny the longest and best quality of life.

Other than his leg, Benny is a normal, wonderful, funny and goofy puppy who loves to run, wrestle and play with his current foster brother and sisters. He gets along great with all dogs, he has never met a furry stranger. He is currently potty trained, walks well on a leash and loves to go for car rides. He likes to play with toys and chew on his bones (he still has a few puppy teeth!). He is currently crated while his foster mom is at work but sleeps either on the bed or on his doggie bed at night without any problems. Benny is used to going out into a fenced in backyard to play and go potty but he has been off leash a few times in an unfenced yard with no problems. Benny is a very loving and cuddly puppy who will climb into your lap for a kiss, cuddle or a nap.

Ultimately, Benny will melt your heart with his puppy cuteness but he is going to need a special forever home and family. Once his leg is amputated in the coming months (we are currently in the process of organizing his surgery), he is going to require lots of love, patience and understanding as he adjust to life as a tripod. But Benny will definitely return that commitment with adoring love and constant entertainment with his goofy and sweet personality. And three legs will not going to slow him down much or keep him from being his normal, happy and playful puppy self. He just needs to right person to get him there!
