Adopted:   Bandit has found his forever home. We wish him the very best life possible.

Bandit is an energetic, young, intact, male (approximately 18 months old) border collie. He came to CBCR after owner surrender to a local animal shelter in the NC mountains. His wellness check went great, is up to date on all vaccines, heartworm negative, and appears to be a very healthy boy; neuter is scheduled for October 13th. Bandit currently weighs 50 pounds and will eat well if you stand nearby and offer encouragement, but he is not a food motivated boy – he is an attention motivated boy! Bandit loves to spend time outside with his people around, playing fetch and chase, or just standing close by to catch all the pets he can get. His favorite toy outside, balls (all the balls, actually) and his favorite toy inside, his dinosaur. Bandit gets along well with other dogs, is not reactive but will put his paws on other dogs which some may not enjoy. If another dog will engage, he enjoys running in the yard with them but does not specifically play with them. We have not had opportunity to have Bandit around children but expect he would do great with kids. He did not react to cats at his vet visit, but that’s as close as we’ve gotten. According to the information received upon the owner surrender, Bandit does not like bicycles and will chase them if given the opportunity. Bandit is most definitely a toddler in that he will not stop unless you make him take a nap, so allowing him to have rest time in his kennel does him well in the afternoons. He does pretty good in the kennel, even going right in on the command “go to your room”. We put him in the kennel at night, but have recently started trying him out of the kennel in our bedroom at night; it’s going well but he does have some wandering tendencies during the night.

Bandit is a quick learner but getting him to focus will be part of the challenge. If you want to play fetch, he is always ready to play. He is gradually learning not to jump up on us and has only counter surfed one time. This boy will need a large, fenced, back yard and a person that wants to play and take him on walks but also provide consistency and structure. He does well on the leash and is starting to loose leash walk, but will pull if you allow him to do so. Bandit will give hours of love and attention to his people as his main goal in life is to be with you. He is housetrained but you do have to pay attention as he is still learning how to tell you when it’s time to go outside; we’ve only had a couple accidents because we were not paying attention. Bandit does not like loud noises but does not react negatively just fearful (the hair dryer being top of that scary list).

Bandit still has work to do with learning manners and training but is going to be a great dog and offer love for years to come.
