Biography: Meet Amy! She is a 7-year-old Australian Shepherd / Border Collie mix in Charleston, SC, looking for her forever home.

Amy was rescued from a kill shelter in November 2019, and shortly thereafter her owner started experiencing health issues that made it unsafe for them to keep a pet.

Amy is sweet, smart, and has a classic herding dog sassy mouth, ensuring she never misses a meal or an opportunity to go outside—she will let you know!

As a slightly older lady, she’s happy to lounge around most days, but does love a good jog in the yard. She’s completely uninterested in toys or fetch, but does have a playful side and would benefit from someone who knows how to let her exercise that aspect safely. We are working on her leash skills right now.

Once she gets to know you, she’s a classic Velcro Dog and wants to be with her person/people as much as possible. However, she hasn’t exhibited any signs of separation anxiety, and treats her crate like a cave-like refuge rather than a container.

She knows commands: sit, stay/wait, paw, and come. She knows “outside” when you ask her if she wants to go. We are working on having her ring a bell for “outside” (she’s done it a couple of times, but for the most part we’ve been proactive about this rather than waiting for her to ring the bell. She is very obedient and responds immediately without testing your limits.

We are working on “lay down.” She would probably be best as the primary princess in someone’s home; we don’t know how she is with other dogs, but she does love attention. She seems uninterested in cats. We do not know how she is with children.

She does have chronic dry eye, which is managed with prescription drops, and she’s a real champ when it’s time to administer them…probably because she knows a treat follows! She is very good and patient for this.

Amy would do best in a home with folks who have experience with herding breeds and their personalities, and who can continue the structure and enrichment she needs to live her best life. She is such a sweet girl and would be a wonderful pet for the right home.

I don’t actually know if she would be good with other dogs, because we have limited history with her; however, “Unknown” wasn’t an option. I’m assuming yes, but I don’t know.

Does the dog have any medical issues? Yes. Dry eye; requires drops twice daily to manage. She is GREAT at taking her drops.

Does the dog have any history of aggression such as growling, lunging, snapping or biting any adult or child? No

Does the dog have any history of aggression toward other animals? No

Reason for re-homing? Amy was rescued from a kill shelter in Cobb County, GA in November 2025. In January/February, her owner started experiencing balance issues and had several falls, making it unsafe for them to own a dog.
